- aims to develop core scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding
- focuses on procedural understanding - on the nature, processes and skills of working scientifically such as questioning and predicting, planning and conducting, analysing data, evaluating and communicating
- each unit of work is in a four-page division (one teacher page and three pupil pages)
